Ceramic Fountains and Sculpture

Adult Summer Class | This program has been canceled

Through demos and individual assistance, students will learn how to create medium sized earthenware sculptures. Students will have the opportunity to create functional objects such as water features and small sculptures and decorative three-dimensional forms. Recommended for intermediate students. Participants will use both hand building and wheel throwing techniques. The instructor will offer demonstrations in planning and construction of complex forms as well as glazing and surface technique.

What you will learn:
1. Planning and realization of time sensitive clay builds.
2. Construction of complex forms using slab rollers, extruders, and pottery wheels.
3. Decoration and finish of artworks

Firing Schedule: For this special topic class, instructors will discuss the firing schedule with students. Finished work can be picked up during operational hours between terms. Additional questions about the firing schedule can be directed to Chris Archer, Senior Studio Technician at carcher@fleisher.org.

All artwork and supplies must be removed from Fleisher’s Ceramics Studio at the end of the class unless registered for a Ceramics class during the upcoming Fall 2024 term. All other items left behind on student shelves may be discarded before the next term begins.

  • • Clay one bag is included in your registration - no outside clay is permitted
    • Clay tool kit
    • Notepad or sketchbook with concepts and sketches for projects

Plese note this is an intermediate class. Students should bring the tools they are most comfortable working with.  The instructor will advise students on specific tools and materials according to their individual projects and make suggestions as needed.

This class is designed with the idea of fountains in mind. Pump components will be available to students in the studio.
