This learner centered stained glass class will be for beginning and advanced students. Learner's are encouraged to bring ideas for small two and three dimensional projects. Ready-made designs are also available in the classroom. Examples include sun catchers, mirror frames, votive candle holders, jewelry, and sculptural objects. Projects can include non-glass items. Glass cutting and assembly techniques will be demonstrated and practiced resulting in a finished project or the skills necessary to finish a project. Glass concepts and historical information will be discussed throughout. All levels welcome! Experienced students are encouraged to contact Manager of Adult Education, Suzanne L. What you will learn:
1. Basic sheet glass handling techniques
2. Basic copper foil soldering techniques

This is a 5-session class. Fleisher will be closed on Thursday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. 

  • Bring the following to the first day of class:
    • Sketch book
    • Pencils or pens
    • Sketches or images for proposed project
    • Safety goggles

    Your instructor will then discuss the following materials with you on the first day of class and advise you about what to purchase based on your ideas and sketches.
    • Copper foil of various dimensions and color
    • Copper, brass, or lead wire, channel and tubes
    • Solder 60/40, 63/37, 50/50, or lead free
    • Soldering iron with temperature control
    • Flux
    • Flux brushes
    • Patinas and patina brushes (non-metal ferrules)

    Additional required tools and materials:
    • Finishing compound
    • Pliers (breaking, groziers, round nose or others determined by your project)
    • Pattern shears
    • Glass cleaner
    • Paper towels
    • Horse shoe nails
    • Wire cutter
    • Jig materials for 3 dimensional projects
    • Latex, nitrile, or kitchen gloves for patina
    • Safety mask if using a grinder
