Visual poetics refers to depicting, translating, or extrapolating information from a given work of written (or spoken!) poetry in a visual manner. In this course we will first look at primarily pre-17th century and ancient poetry to see which elements the artists throughout the ages chose to depict in painting, drawing, or sculpture. Afterwards, students can create visual works (both figurative or abstract) from their favorite poets and they can write their own poem to later illustrate!

What you will learn:
1. Students will learn about common literary and narrative symbols that exist in visual art.
2. Students will learn the importance of Greco-Roman literature and its legacy in Renaissance art.
