In this class, we will explore some traditional bookbinding structures using some modern materials and techniques. This is a great class for a quick introduction into the world of making books. You will learn some basic binding techniques using traditional tools and materials. Through demonstrations & guided instruction, students will work through multiple projects throughout the class.

What you will learn:
1. The basic hand skills of cutting, folding and sewing various materials
2. Different papers and other materials used in bookbinding
3. Several different types of bindings
4. Sources for materials, tools, and instructional guidance for future learning

  • • Pencil
    • White eraser
    • Metal ruler
    • Triangle
    • Scissors
    • Olfa cutting knife or X-acto with extra blades
    • Bone folder
    • Awl or thin needle tool (as used for clay)
    • Self-healing Cutting Mat
    • Binder Clips - At least 2 medium sized

    Optional Supplies
    • Decorative paper
