Movable Books (four sessions)

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced book maker this workshop is your introduction to the exciting world of movable books. You will learn simple movable books, fold outs, pop-ups, rotating parts, and other types of movables.
What you will learn:
1. Sources for materials, tools, and instructional guidance for future learning
2. The basic hand skills of cutting and folding
3. Different papers and other materials used in bookbinding
4. A variety of movable book structures
Here are the personal tools and supplies you will need. You will need everything to participate in the first week of class, so please feel free to e-mail with questions.
• Bone folder
• Olfa cutting knife (or X-acto) with extra blades
• Scissors
• Awl or thin needle tool (as used for clay)
• Self healing cutting mat
• Metal ruler
• Triangle
• Pencil
• White eraser
• Stiff bristle brush for gluing (at least 1" - can be synthetic)
• Glue stick
• Double stick tape
• Bookbinding glue (you will need a minimal amount, Elmers will suffice in a pinch)
• Bookbinding Thread (we don't need a ton - thicker thread will work)
• Stiff bristle brush for gluing (at least 1” can be synthetic)
• Card stock- we will be using quite a bit of this, get yourself some fun colors or patterns
• Paper – similar crispness and thickness of copy paper, get yourself some fun colors or patterns
• Various size and shape hole punches (if you have them)
