This class will explore watercolor as paint material and as a tool for constructing an image. Topics covered will include mixing colors, color theory, paint application techniques, composition, materials. This course is designed for all levels, beginners welcome and encouraged to join. Learn to embrace the flexibility and experimentation of watercolor. You will discover and deepen your practice through guided demonstrations and painting exercises.

What you will learn:
1. Explore watercolor painting techniques
2. Gain skill rendering the natural and built environment using line, shape, light and dark
3. Learn methods for and techniques for color mixing and application in water-based mediums.

  • • Palette and/or mixing dishes
    • Painters Tape
    • Watercolor brushes: round tip - #4 and #10,1-inch flat brush
    • Watercolor paper: individual sheets or block–140lb. Cold pressed, 8 x 10, or 9 x 12 pads
    • Watercolor paint in tubes or trays (Colors will be discussed the first day of class): a few suggested brands – Winsor & Newton, Da Vinci, L'Aquarelle, Holbein, Daniele Smith Watercolors, and Blick
    • Liquid Resist/Masking Fluid
    • Water-soluble colored pencils and crayons (optional)
    • Waterproof Black Ink (optional)
