Designed for students who took Intro to Drawing or already have a grasp of basic drawing techniques, this course takes you further into form, structure, and expression while keeping at your pace. Students will learn key concepts such as basic figure drawing, detailed rendering, quick sketching and perspective. Each class features a directed exercise designed to be used for more complex subject matter. This class is intended for those who are looking to take their drawing to their next level. Explore nude figure drawing on the last four days of class.

What you will learn:
1. Make detailed rendered value drawing of real objects
2. Explore different shading techniques
3. Gain more understanding of the structure of the human and animal head and body through studying basic anatomy
4. Begin to develop an understanding of decisive, quick sketching
5. Confidence and comfort with the materials

This is an 8-session workshop.

  • • Drawing pad (white paper) 11 x 14, 9 x 12 or whatever size you have already
    • Pencils 2H, HB, 2B, 6B, 8B or a full set
    • 1 blending stump, tortillion or a few q-tips
    • 3 erasers: 1 kneaded, 1 pink, 1 Mono Zero
    • Sandpaper or flint paper (for getting a point on a pencil)
    • X-acto knife (for sharpening pencil)
    • Tombow Dual Brush pen - Black (or another brand)
    • Ruler (minimum 6”)
    • Vellum tracing paper pad 9 x 12
    • Binder with sheet protectors for handouts, or folder or binder clip
    • Optional: Sennelier Fixative for Graphite to protect drawings from smearing
    • Optional: Scissors and Scotch Tape

Barbara graduated with a B.F.A. in Illustration from Syracuse University in 1999, and immediately moved to NYC. She met success in shows at Figureworks Gallery and Get Real Art, but felt drawn to study classical painting in Florence, Italy. She lived there for one year studying drawing under Mario Pachioli. Then in 2004, she moved to Philadelphia on a full scholarship to study with Nelson Shanks at Studio Incamminati. It was here that she developed her portrait painting, drawing and color theory skills. She left the atelier in 2006 to work on a series of large paintings depicting figures of Greek mythology and began to explore landscape painting. After travelling and painting extensively, Barbara returned to Incamminati to finish the Professional Program in 2015 and served as a teaching fellow for two years. In addition to Fleisher, she currently teaches painting and drawing at Studio Incamminati, Wayne Art Center, Main Line Art Center, Abington Art Center, Journey’s Way, and Repenning Fine Arts in Audubon, NJ.
