This four session workshop is designed to demystify the screen-printing process and help you learn how to set up and print in your own home studio. You will learn low-tech nontoxic techniques using accessible water-soluble materials such as drawing fluid, screen filler, graphite and Caran d'Ache. We will also cover how to set up and clean up at home.

  • Materials for week one:
  • • Notebook and pencil
  • • Ideas for screenprinting- e.g., sketch

  • Materials for students to bring after week one
  • • Water based textile or Acrylic Screenprinting inks (water based, not water soluble read the label carefully) - bring black, white, red, yellow, and blue (can bring other colors too)
  • • 22 x 30 in archival rag paper at least 4 sheets (Lenox, Arches 88, or any smooth paper Rives, Stone henge, BFK)
  • • 18 x24 in newsprint pad (though its provided in studio
  • • Masking tape
  • • Plastic pint or quart size containers
  • • Optional - medical gloves, dishwashing gloves
  • • Any kind of portfolio to hold your paper
  • • Storage for inks and class supplies: cardboard box, plastic box, or a sturdy bag.
  • • Optional - Water soluble Carensosche crayons or color pencils or lyra or Derwent water soluble graphite sticks or pencils
