In this class, students will learn fundamental skills for jewelry fabrication including piercing and basic forming techniques in combination with various "cold-connections" such as riveting, findings, jump-rings, and tab-setting. The objective of the class is to introduce students to metal fabrication with a special focus on processes that the student can accessibly practice at home with a minimalist, torch-free set up. Many of these techniques are especially suitable to marrying alternative materials with metal in jewelry. Students are encouraged to bring in wood, plastic, etc. as well as any beads they have that they may choose to incorporate into wearable works of art.
While this workshop will focus primarily on cold-connections, students will have the opportunity to learn basic soldering techniques that they may choose to work into their cold-connected pieces.
What you will learn:
1. How to create rivets for cold-connections in jewelry and metal objects
2. How to pierce a tab-setting for a cabochon stone
3. How to make your own findings for earrings and necklaces
