Do you remember your favorite book to read as a child? Do you remember how reading it made you feel? Here is an opportunity to recreate that nostalgic feel by creating your own children's book/short story. The overall aim of this class is to teach you how to develop a compelling narrative-focused children’s book while also providing an understanding of storytelling, character, and environmental design, and finally drafting and composition of the book. Students are encouraged to utilize any medium for their projects. A demonstration on creating captivating characters and settings to fit the narrative you wish to share is how we will commence the class, and independent work time will follow the demonstration.
There will be time during the class and specific days designated for group sharing and critique. Finalized illustrations will be digitally scanned and cleaned up for final file layout and submission. There will be a minimum of 13 pages and a maximum of 18 pages for the stories. This course will allow you to dive deep into your creative pool and provide a step-by-step guide on learning how to compose an illustrated children’s book, so join me as we explore the depths of our inner child together!
