Photo books and albums have been the ideal way to treasure keepsakes since their invention. We will explore book structures that compensate and/or expand for the addition of personal items.

What you will learn in this workshop:
1. Sources for materials, tools, and instructional guidance for future learning
2. The basic hand skills of cutting, folding and sewing various materials
3. Different papers and other materials used in bookbinding
4. Several different types of book structures that are ideal for keep photographs and other 2-D items

  • This is an in-person class which will take place in our building with strict social distancing protocols and reduced student capacity. Please see our COVID-19 community safety policies.
  • • Bone folder
  • • Olfa cutting knife (or X-acto) with extra blades
  • • Scissors
  • • Awl or thin needle tool (as used for clay)
  • • Self healing cutting mat
  • • Glue stick
  • • Double stick tape
  • • Metal ruler
  • • Triangle
  • • Pencil
  • • White eraser
  • • Binder clips
  • • Card stock
  • • Bookcloth
  • • Ribbon (if you have some)
  • • Decorative paper
  • • Stiff bristle brush for gluing (at least 1” can be synthetic)
  • • Photos and other 2-D to include in the sample books you make in class
