In this course, students will apply two-dimensional design concepts to create works on paper, mixed media photographs, and patterns for textiles and functional objects. With an emphasis on composition, line, shape, and color, the principals taught in this course will serve as a foundation for all approaches to art-making. Taking inspiration from contemporary decorative arts, students will learn the formal elements of art by way of pattern, abstraction, and stylization. While transferring design principals to a variety of techniques and materials, students will develop their own unique visual language and expression that extends beyond any one medium or art form. This interactive class is structured for all skill levels.
