Designed for students who already have a grasp of basic drawing techniques, this class takes you deeper into form, structure, and expression while keeping at your pace. Students will be learning key concepts such as atmospheric perspective, detailed rendering, intermediate perspective, use of color, and combining materials. Each class features a directed exercise designed to be used for more complex subject matter. This class is intended for those who are looking to take their drawing to their next level.

Please note: This is a 6-session workshop. Fleisher will be closed on Monday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day, and class will conclude on Monday, August 1.

What You Will Learn in This Course
1. Make detailed rendered value drawing of real objects
2. Create volumetric drawing using light and dark in multiple mediums
3. Create foreground, middle ground, and background
4. Handle complicated subjects and correctly place groups of objects
5. Begin to develop an understanding of decisive, quick sketching
6. Confidence and comfort with the materials

  • • Drawing pad 11 x 14 or 9 x 12, 80 or 90lb medium tooth white paper
  • • Winsor and Newton Pastel Pad 12 x 16 or 9 x 12 earth or gray tone
  • • Canson Mi-Teintes Drawing Paper 5 sheets 19 x 25 Moonstone or other tone (160gsm)
  • • Graphite pencils: 4H, 2H, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B
  • • Razor blades (flat ones from hardware store) or x-acto knife for sharpening pencil (optional)
  • • Nupastel Prismacolor set or other brand
  • • Small blending brush
  • • Vine charcoal (medium) box of 6 and up
  • • Soft Red Contè pencil (sanguine is good) or crayon depending on your preference
  • • General’s Charcoal pencils set of 4 that includes white
  • • Chamois
  • • Blending tortillons assorted sizes
  • • Kneaded eraser
  • • Staedtler or pink pearl eraser
  • • Ruler
  • • Painter’s or drafting tape ½”
  • • Mechanic pencil 7mm (dollar store)
  • • Small handheld mirror (dollar store)
  • • Viva (original, not with the patterning) paper towels or cotton fabric swatches
  • • Small Sketchbook such as 6 x 8 (Dick Blick has some in the front section for $6)
