This online class will explore watercolor as paint material and as a tool for constructing an image. Topics covered will include mixing colors, color theory, paint application techniques, composition, materials. This course is designed for all levels, beginner to advanced: returning students will deepen their knowledge of watercolor and new students will learn techniques to get started and keep painting. First hour of each class will include lecture and demonstration, in the second hour there will be time to work on your own projects with opportunities for questions and discussion.

• Participants must have a valid Fleisher membership.

  • This is an online class hosted through Zoom. We recommend that you download the free Zoom application on your computer, phone, or tablet in advance of the first class.


    You will receive a confirmation email containing a link to join the course via Zoom. The same link will be used each week.

  • FOR THE FIRST CLASS BRING THESE SUPPLIES:
  • • Paints:
  • -Hansa Yellow Light
  • -New Gamboge Yellow
  • -Burnt Sienna
  • -Cadmium Red
  • -Quinacridone Red, Magenta or Rose
  • -Ultramarine Blue
  • -Cobalt Turquoise Light or Pthalo Blue-Green Shade
  • -Viridian Green or Pthalo Green

  • I prefer tube paint because they offer a lot of versatility in designing your pallet with colors that are organized the way you personally choose. You can also use them in a liquid state if you need to make a large quantity of paint or are wanting to mix color with other mediums (ink, gouache etc.) but it depends on personal preference and pans will also work. I strongly recommend professional/ artist quality paint (vs cheaper student grade paints) the initial cost is an investment but in the end you will be saving money because the pigment load is higher quality and makes a much stronger impact Recommended brands include: Winsor and Newton (Professional Grade), Holbien, M Graham, Van Gogh, Schminke, Sennelier, and Daniel Smith.

  • • 140lb cold press Watercolor pad or block paper(9"x12" or 8.5"x11”)
  • • please bring a hard surface to attach watercolor paper to
  • • Blue painters tape or Artist tape
  • • an inexpensive pad of multimedia or cheap watercolor paper (strathmore vision is good) for sketching that gives you the option to paint into your sketches
  • • A pencil
  • • Two brushes - Soft round, with pointed tips - #6 and #12 (or around those sizes)
  • • Container for water
  • • Paper towels
  • • A palette with room to squeeze out each color and good mixing areas to mix color.
