Explore the sculptural and functional sides of glass working. Kiln fired glass casting is a technique that allows us to work with the delicate and exciting material of glass without the expense and complexity of glassblowing. Working with a sculptural form of your choice, you will learn to create a mold and cast the final piece in glass. As you work on your projects, you will learn the properties of glass such as, annealing, painting with glass powders, and using cold working equipment to refine finished pieces. At the end of the class, you’ll take home several glass pieces of your own design and making!

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN IN THIS COURSE
1. Learn about the properties of glass and kiln-firing.
2. Learn how to make an open-face mold, a two-part 3D sculptural mold, and a vessel mold.
3. Learn how to apply glass powders onto a mold surface and how to fill a mold with glass.
4. Learn how to do cold working on glass work after it has been fired to refine the finished piece.
