This class will introduce you to basic theories, principals, and techniques to successfully draw the figure. It is aimed for those students who are interested in examining the traditional approach in figure drawing from life. You will discover a wide range of specific ideas and skills necessary to depict the body and its surrounding in a realistic manner. Topics covered include three-dimensional visualization and how it relates two-dimensions, development of spatial imagination, proportion, tonal relationships, depth, volume, environment, space and strong composition.

What you will learn in this class.
1. The basics of the human body’s anatomy for artists
2. Principles of traditional realistic imaging
3. Various drawing techniques and materials
4. A traditional approach to design an idea in drawing


Participants must have a valid Fleisher membership.

  • This is an in-person class which will take place in our building with strict social distancing protocols and reduced student capacity. Please see our COVID-19 community safety policies.
  • Start the term with these supplies:

  • - Drawing paper (at least 163-270 g / m3; 18 "x 24")
  • - Graphite pencils ( 3b, 5b, 8b)
  • - Hard eraser
  • - Kneaded eraser
  • - Knife (Pencil sharpener)
  • - Sandpaper pads
  • Midway through the term students will need these supplies:
  • - Drawing paper (at least 163-270 g / m3; 18 "x 24")
  • - Graphite pencils ( 3b, 5b, 8b)
  • - Water soluble graphite (4b-8b) (optional)
  • - Conte Pierre Noir (optional)
  • - Soft vine charcoal (optional)
  • - Conte Sanguine (optional)
  • - Conte Velours a Sauce (optional)
  • - Hard eraser
  • - Kneaded eraser
  • - Knife (Pencil sharpener)
  • - Sandpaper pads
