Explore the fundamental language of wheel-throwing through a close study of techniques, starting from the ground up. All levels are welcome. Whether working with clay for the first time, or looking for ways to refresh your practice through new perspectives, this course expands the possibilities available to you in creating expression through clay. Insights into form, surface texture, slip and glaze applications, and fundamental questions involved in exploring your own personal approach as a maker, will be offered alongside weekly introductions to a wide range of examples from historical and contemporary ceramics around the world. The step-by-step
technical instruction provided in this class is designed to give you a solid understanding of the basic principles of working with clay at the wheel, and each student is individually guided and met at their level, whether beginner or advanced.

  • This is an in-person class which will take place in our building with strict social distancing protocols and reduced student capacity. Please see our COVID-19 community safety policies.
  • The studio fee includes the use of studio materials, glazing, and firing. You will need to purchase additional supplies:
  • • Clay is available for purchase in the school store, no outside clay permitted
  • • Bring your own tools or anything you may think can be used as a tool
  • Or
  • • A basic pottery tool kit is available for purchase in the school store (which includes):
  • A Sponge, Steel Scraper, Potter’s Rib, Modeling Tool, Wire Cutter Needle Tool, Ribbon Tool & Loop Tool
