We'll study and laugh at four feature comedies from around the world, three from directors long dedicated to the art of comedy and one a surprising debut from a longtime hip-hop artist. We'll discuss how visual design underlines the filmmakers' approach to satire, farce and surrealism in comedy. We'll examine the character traditions of the form and review the filmmakers' careers and histories in pursuing their craft. Laughter is encouraged!

Features to be screened include:
Lost in Paris (2016, directed by Dominique Abel & Fiona Gordon, French-Belgian)
My Big Night (2016, Álex de la Iglesia, Spain)
Sorry To Bother You (2018, directed by Boots Riley, U.S.)
In Another Country (2012, directed by Hong Sang-soo, South Korea)
