To assist you in preparing for this class, we have provided a link to the setup / test pages from the conference provider. If you have never used this conference service before please click on the link below so that your PC or device will be ready to participate in this class.

In this online workshop, students will learn how to improve their portrait painting skills. Included will be presentations on portrait structure and anatomy, direct painting techniques, how to get a likeness, color and color mixing in portrait painting, composition, and expression.

The instructor will provide video demos of the class topics as well as visual discussions of the history of portrait painting, images of contemporary portrait painting and styles, and strategies for developing your own style.

  • This is an online class hosted through Zoom. We recommend that you download the free Zoom application on your computer, phone, or tablet in advance of the first class.

  • You will receive a confirmation email containing a link to join the course via Zoom. The same link will be used each week.
  • START THE TERM WITH THESE SUPPLIES:
  • Open to all media, including acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastels, etc.
  • If you would like to paint in old you can use the following supply list:
  • • Turpenoid
  • • Medium: Liquin Original
  • • Paper towels
  • • Pizza box (or other box to transport wet paintings)
  • • Panel sizes: Bring 3 support to paint on prepared with gray gesso. No smaller than 8"x10"inches and no bigger that 14"x16" inches
  • • Winton/Windsor & Newton Oil Paints (40 ml tube) suggested: Cadmium Yellow Light, Indian Yellow, Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Red Light, Permanent Alizarin Crimson, Dioxazine Purple, French Ultramarine, Titanium White (150 ml), Ivory Black, Permanent Green, Chromium Oxide Green, Yellow Ochre, Raw Sienna, Indian Red, Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber
  • • The instructor will talk about brushes during the first class. Bring any brushes that you might already have.

  • If you already have a color palette that you are familiar with and that works for you, please bring your own colors.
