This online class will introduce you to basic theories, principals, and techniques to successfully draw the figure. Instructor demonstrations will cover anatomy, proportion, gesture, composition, and light and shadow. We will concentrate on improving your eye and knowledge through demonstrations, and lots of drawing. There will be one-on-one critiques, group discussions and dialogue to help improve your drawing skills.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN IN THIS COURSE
Long-pose drawing, drawing from multiple view points, composing multiple figures on the page, discussing methods and materials, etc. These class skills will prepare you for many of the other classes at Fleisher such as painting, printmaking, sculpture, and collage.

  • This is an online class hosted through Zoom. We recommend that you download the free Zoom application on your computer, phone, or tablet in advance of the first class.

  • You will receive a confirmation email containing a link to join the course via Zoom. The same link will be used each week.

  • START THE TERM WITH THESE SUPPLIES:
  • • A newsprint pad, suggested size 18" x 24”
  • • A sketchbook, suggested size 8" x 10”
  • • Pencils HB, 4B, 3B
  • • Kneaded rubber eraser

  • OTHER SUPPLIES TO BE DISCUSSED ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS:
  • • Soft vine charcoal
  • • Charcoal paper pad
  • • Toned charcoal paper
  • • White chalk, or conte crayon
  • • Pastels
