This is your introduction to the techniques, history, and aesthetics of decorative and functional mosaics. You may use many mosaic materials, including pebbles, stained glass, marble, ceramic plates, tiles, and smalti to create finished pieces. The emphasis will be on design, pattern, construction, and finished presentation.

Your instructor will provide lots of useful information about historical and contemporary mosaic works, along with where to source materials and specialized tools, for your specific projects.

  • This is an in-person class which will take place in our Mosaics Studio with strict social distancing protocols and a maximum of 7 students in the space. Students will be required to wear masks for the entire duration of the class.

  • Please note: class will not be held on July 5. A make-up session for the class will take place on August 2.
  • • Begin the term with a notebook and pencil. Bring any mosaic tools, materials, or project ideas you have with you to the first class. The instructor will help you develop a project idea and introduce the students to our brand new mosaic studio as well as the tools and supplies available.
  • • Depending on the project chosen you may need a substrate, something to glue down, the proper adhesive for the job, a few tools, and maybe grout. We will cover the options during the first class.
