Summer in the city, you’re at home, you look outside your window — and paint! The familiar appearance of your city, be it a view of your neighborhood, of the urban skyline, or onto your garden, can offer some exciting opportunities for painters. And as every day is different, we can paint such a motif in all its moods, and all of ours. Don’t underestimate the depth of knowledge you have of the world at home. And remember, just as writers are advised to write what they know, painters can also benefit by painting what they know. It might surprise us, what we come up with, and how we express the feelings of our home in the world. Your instructor will be with you in virtual space, painting his own home view to demonstrate options you can consider for your painting. The first hour of the class will be spent on demonstrations by the instructor and the second hour students will have a chance to work independently and share their work in progress with the instructor and the class.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN THIS CLASS
1. To treat the “home in the world” as a theme in painting.
2. To learn how rich familiar spaces are for inspiration.
3. To explore the discoveries inherent in a series.
4. To explore the natural or urban landscape in painting
