Explore this classic genre and capture the personal gaze of self-portraiture through the medium of drawing. This online class encourages the artist to draw their own self- portrait using mirrors to observe their mark-making as they relate the image to a surface. We'll explore observational techniques for self-portraiture, the structure and proportions of the head and face, marking making, shadow and light, and their descriptive qualities. Examples of classical and contemporary self-portraiture will be discussed. The first hour of the class will be spent on demonstrations by the instructor and the second hour students will have a chance to work independently and share their work in progress with the instructor and the class.
