Whether you are a beginner or an experienced book maker this online workshop is your chance to explore the exciting world of movable books. You will learn simple books with fold outs, pop-ups, rotating parts, and other types of movables.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN THIS CLASS
• Sources for materials, tools, and instructional guidance for future learning
• The basic hand skills of cutting, folding and sewing various materials
• Different papers and other materials used in bookbinding
• A variety of movable book structures

  • This is an online class hosted through Zoom. We recommend that you download the free Zoom application on your computer, phone, or tablet in advance of the first class.

  • You will receive a confirmation email containing a link to join the course via Zoom. The same link will be used each week.
  • Here are the personal tools and supplies you will need. You will need everything to participate in the first week of class, so please feel free to e-mail with questions.

  • • Bone folder
  • • Olfa cutting knife (or X-acto) with extra blades
  • • Scissors
  • • Awl or thin needle tool (as used for clay)
  • • Self healing cutting mat
  • • Glue stick
  • • Double stick tape
  • • Metal ruler
  • • Triangle
  • • Pencil
  • • White eraser
  • • Bookbinding glue (you will need a minimal amount, Elmers will suffice in a pinch)
  • • Stiff bristle brush for gluing (at least 1” can be synthetic)
  • • Thread- a 3 inch piece of any kind of thread will do
  • • Card stock- we will be using quite a bit of this, get yourself some fun colors or patterns
  • • Decorative paper – similar crispness and thickness of copy paper
  • • Various size and shape hole punches (if you have them, this would be for decorative elements)
