To assist you in preparing for this class, we have provided a link to the setup / test pages from the conference provider. If you have never used this conference service before please click on the link below so that your PC or device will be ready to participate in this class.

If you have been curious about fiber arts or are ready to dip your fingers back into fabric and thread, join us for this sampler of fiber techniques. We will try out surface design such as painting and dyeing fabric, fabric collage or piecing, simple embroidery, and soft sculpture construction. Fiber enthusiasts of all levels are welcome to get creative each week with skills and materials that will build into a final project.

  • This is an online class hosted through Zoom. We recommend that you download the free Zoom application on your computer, phone, or tablet in advance of the first class.

  • You will receive a confirmation email containing a link to join the course via Zoom. The same link will be used each week.
  • Start the term with these supplies:

  • • 1-2 yards of plain, white cotton muslin or broadcloth
  • • assorted fabric scraps
  • • 1 or more colors of dynaflow fabric paint
  • • paint brush
  • • 1 color of procion mx fiber reactive dye and 1 small packet of soda ash
  • (can dye with turmeric if you want something chemical-free to dye with)
  • • embroidery hoop
  • • glass jar or plastic container
  • • rubber bands
  • • scissors
  • • sewing thread
  • • embroidery needle
  • • embroidery floss or perle cotton thread
  • • mistyfuse fusible web optional but useful
  • • sewing machine and iron optional but useful

Marie Elcin has been teaching in both the children and adult programs at Fleisher since 2007. She has a BFA from Moore College of Art and Design and a Master of Art Education from Tyler School of Art, Temple University. She is a practicing fiber artist with a focus on embroidery, surface design, and printmaking.
