This online class will introduce you to basic theories, principals, and techniques to successfully draw the figure. We will concentrate on improving your eye and knowledge through handouts, note taking, demonstrations, and lots of drawing of the figure from photographs. There will be critiques, group discussions and dialogue to help improve your drawing skills. Topics include gesture drawings, long drawing, drawing from multiple viewpoints, composing multiple figures on the page, discussing methods and materials.

  • This is an online class hosted through Zoom. We recommend that you download the free Zoom application on your computer, phone, or tablet in advance of the first class.

  • You will receive a confirmation email containing a link to join the course via Zoom. The same link will be used each week.
  • You are free to use any drawing materials you choose. The supply list is composed of suggested materials that reflect the instructor’s demonstrated techniques:

  • • Soft vine charcoal
  • • Charcoal paper pad
  • • Toned charcoal paper
  • • White chalk or conte crayon
