Explore the fundamental language of wheel-throwing through a close study of techniques, starting from the ground up. All levels are welcome. Whether working with clay for the first time, or looking for ways to re-examine your practice through new perspectives, this course aims to expand the possibilities available to you in creating expression through clay. Insights into form, surface texture, slip and glaze applications, and more will be offered alongside weekly introductions to a wide range of examples from the rich history of wheel-thrown pots, including the diversity of contemporary practices around the world.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN THIS CLASS
1. Fundamental wheel-throwing techniques
2. Introductions to various traditions in the history of pottery
3. A variety of approaches to slip and glaze applications
4. Combining and altering wheel-thrown elements to create a variety of pouring vessels

  • This is an in-person class which will take place in our Ceramic Studio with strict social distancing protocols and a maximum of 6 students in the space. Students will be required to wear masks for the entire duration of the class.   • The studio fee includes the use of studio materials, glazing, and firing. You will need to purchase additional supplies:
  • • Clay is available for purchase at Fleisher, no outside clay permitted
  • • Bring your own tools or anything you may think can be used as a tool
