To assist you in preparing for this class, we have provided a link to the setup / test pages from the conference provider. If you have never used this conference service before please click on the link below so that your PC or device will be ready to participate in this class.

This online class will provide you with an introduction to drawing the figure. Emphasis will be given to seeing and understanding proportion, gesture and light and shadow. You will learn to describe the direction of the light, and complexion. We will work with charcoal and then move to red and white chalks used in conjunction with colored paper. The instructor will demonstrate each new media as they are introduced. All levels of students will benefit from the stress on fundamentals of drawing the human figure.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN IN THIS COURSE
1. The observation and understanding of gesture in all aspects of the figure
2. Learning to see the direction of light in terms of light and shadow patterns
3. Observing the model's complexion as a relationship of skin color, hair color, and eye color
4. Seeing the three qualities of light: light, transition, and shadow

  • This is an online class hosted through Zoom. We recommend that you download the free Zoom application on your computer, phone, or tablet in advance of the first class.

  • You will receive a confirmation email containing a link to join the course via Zoom. The same link will be used each week.

  • Please note: this is an 8 session course. Class will not be held on January 18 and February 15 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and President’s Day.
