English:
Learn how to make skull sculptures with papier-mâché for Día de los Muertos in this hourlong class with artist Mauricio Pérez every Monday in October. This is a bilingual workshop but it will largely be taught in Spanish.

  • English: All Día de los Muertos workshops are free and open to the public, but advanced registration is required. The workshops will be conducted through Zoom and will be limited to 20 registrants per workshop. Once registration is complete, the link to join Zoom will be sent to the email address you used to register.

  • Spanish:
  • Todos los talleres son gratis y abiertos a todo el público, pero es necesario inscribirse antes de que las clases comiencen. Los talleres serán conducidos a través de Zoom y están limitados a 20 participantes.   • Materials (many of them can be found at the Dollar Stores):
  • • 3" Styrofoam Ball
  • • Paper Bag (or Kraft Paper)
  • • Hot Glue Gun and 1 Glue Stick
  • • Wheat Flour for the Paste
  • • Stick (skewer stick or a long pencil)
  • • Acrylic Paints (white, red and black and whatever other colors you desire)

  • Materiales (muchos de ellos se pueden encontrar en las Dollar Stores)::
  • • 1 Bola de Styrofoam de 3 Pulgadas o 7cm de Diámetro
  • • Bolsa de Papel Kraft (Trader Joe's, Whole Foods)
  • • Pistola de Silicona y 1 Barra de Silicona
  • • Harina de Trigo (para el engrudo)
  • • Palito de Pincho
  • • Pinturas Acrilicas (por lo menos los colores blanco, negro y rojo y luego cualquier otro color que usted desee)

Mauricio studied art at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. He has been highly influenced by the Mexican Surrealism movement and uses this point of reference to create large Papier-mâché sculptures that commingle craft skills with academics art practices. With 20 years of experience of working in this medium, he currently teaches various Papier-mâché workshop throughout the Philadelphia and New York City areas and participates in local craft fairs in both regions.
