Loosen up your drawing style and breathe new creativity into your artmaking. You will be challenged to capture the bustling life of the city through quick sketches in pen, pencil and watercolor. Each session will take place at some of Philadelphia’s most beloved and iconic landmarks, including 30th Street Station, Reading Terminal Market, and the 9th Street Market. Topics covered in this class include choosing and framing your scene, sketching at a quick pace, conveying detail through modest means, drawing in perspective, and watercolor techniques.

  • This is an in-person, off site course. We will practice social distancing during class.

Lara Cantu-Hertzler is a Philadelphia painter who is inspired by architecture and the figure. She explores themes of urban decay and feminine identity. Lara’s influences include: classical art, dance, photography, abstract expressionism and impressionism. In 2008 Lara graduated from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts graduating with a Certificate in painting. In 2014 Lara received a full fellowship to Vermont Studio Center. Lara’s had solo shows at: Allens Lane Art Center, Abington Art Center, and High Wire Gallery. She’s also exhibited her work at Rittenhouse Square, and Rosenfeld Gallery. Lara has won numerous awards from The Philadelphia Sketch club, and The Philadelphia National Arts Program.
