In this highly experimental class you will learn to combine dyeing techniques with drawing, painting and printmaking on paper. You will learn the basics of fiber reactive dyes and how to create compelling compositions printed with dye on rag printmaking paper. Layering and color harmony will be a large focus of our work. We will use thermofax screens and deconstructed silkscreens to create our prints.
Deconstructed silkscreen is the process of creating a textured rubbing or drawing on your silkscreen using thickened dye, allowing it to dry and then releasing the dried drawing onto your work surface to create a monoprint. We will work back into our designs using various materials such as pastels, acrylic paint, dye, pencils and more.
