Join us to enjoy the inspiration BalletX provides. We will split our time between observing rehearsals of this exciting company, and working up drawings and paintings back at Fleisher’s studio. Working in a spirit of inspiration employs memory and observation in a fearless way. Come with us to share the excitement of dance, as well as the excitement of drawing or painting the dance and the dancer.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
1. Drawing from a moving figure
2. Capturing gesture and movement
3. The proportions and structure of the human figure
4. Capturing the grace and beauty of dance

  • Meet at the ballet on the first class with:
  • a 4 X 6 inch sketchbook (or up to 9 X 12 inches) and
  • a Pencil (4B or 6B preferred, but a regular number 2 pencil is fine)
  • NO CHARCOAL PERMITTED IN THE DANCE STUDIOS.
  • At Fleisher, we reassemble with the above, PLUS the following:
  • 18 X 24 inch newsprint pad or drawing pad
  • Jumbo stick charcoal
  • Kneaded eraser

  • OPTIONAL:
  • Painting kit: oil, acrylic, water color or gouache
  • Surfaces can be canvas, or paper, as appropriate.
  • You may find paint rags or paper towels to be the best brushes for this. But in addition, you may want a brush and appropriate medium.
  • Suggested colors:
  • Black
  • Titanium white
  • Burnt Sienna
  • Ultramarine Blue
  • Yellow Ochre
  • Red (Cadmium Red, or Cadmium Red Hue)
  • Green (Phthalo Green, or Viridian)
