A word. A phrase. A sentence. A paragraph. What makes a group of words strung together keep your attention like so? Is it the order? The choice of words? Or is it... the punctuation?! This creative writing class will focus on prose and poetry the particular arrangement that makes them not only interesting, but memorable. Led by poet and writer Catzie Vilayphonh, whose background as a community organizer in immigrant communities has helped shape her process of choosing words that have meaning beyond their English definitions. This 5-week-course will take a deep dive into our favorite literary works and what's so attractive about them, but also how we can orchestrate these very same techniques to make magic for us as well.
