This workshop will introduce you to the wide world of dye and resist methods. Using MX Dye (a fiber reactive dye), we will explore experimental methods of resisting dye using soy wax, flour and more. Towards the second half of the workshop we will be exploring printing patterns using thickened mx dye on thermofax screens and deconstructed silkscreens. Deconstructed silkscreening is the process of creating a textured rubbing on a silkscreen or drawing directly onto the screen and creating monoprints on your work surface. You will be creating a variety of samples using these techniques. With all the processes we will be exploring ways to work back in to your first layer, building layers and complexity.
Throughout the course we will learn embroidery stitches and how to integrate them into our work as an embellishment tool or resist method. Experiencing color and learning how to work in layers will be a focus and conversation throughout this class. We will be integrating the fabrics we create into a collection of fabric collages.
