This oil painting course is designed to instruct and encourage both beginning and advanced students. The instructor will provide information on facial structures and do demonstrations each week. Students will go through exercises designed to strengthen their ability in obtaining proportions, recognizing facial structures, and calibrating value relationships. The ultimate goal is for students to learn a thinking process that will lead to an oil painting process that can both be logical and expressive.

Poses range from 1 hour to multiple days pending student progress.

  • The following list of materials are recommended by instructor.
  • • 1 toned canvas per night (size 16x20 recommended)
  • • Brushes of different shapes and sizes (I use Silver Grand Prix Bristle Filbert #4 most frequently)
  • • Turpenoid (blue label) or Gamsol
  • • Winsor Newton Professional Paints: Titanium White, Burnt Sienna, Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Yellow Pale, and Permanent Rose
  • • 1 Palette Knife
  • • Palette
  • • Viva Paper towels or rags
  • • Jars for turpentine
