In this ten-week course students will learn to screen print on paper and fabric using water-based acrylic inks. The course will cover an introduction to screen printing using the photo emulsion process. Topics covered will include creating screen print positives, coating and exposing screens, textile printing techniques, and the trapunto quilting process. Prior screen printing or fabric printing experience is not necessary.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN THIS CLASS
1. Screen printing acrylic ink on paper and fabric
2. Creating screen print positives
3. Coating, burning, and reclaiming photo emulsion for screen printing
4. Basic machine and hand sewing techniques

  • *All materials will be provided for the first class. There are several communal aprons and dish gloves but you may prefer to bring and use your own.

  • By second class:
  • Water-based acrylic screen printing ink (note: not water soluble ink)
  • Dish gloves
  • Apron Clear packing tape
  • Plastic containers for mixing ink (yogurt, cottage cheese containers etc.)
