Explore the world of assemblage using the vehicle of animal form as inspiration. Beginning with structural anatomy, we will instinctively approach found objects we’ve gathered to express our connection to and relationship with our animal subjects. Structural, conceptual and aesthetic issues will be addressed at length via lecture, demonstration and group critique.

The basic structure of animals

  • This Monday class is eight sessions in order to accommodate the two holidays that occur during the winter term: Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 20, and Presidents’ Day, February 17. The class will not be held on these days and there are no makeup sessions.
  • Wood platform (Masonite, pine or composite) at least 12x12 or larger (based on your chosen scale/ Not larger than 18x18)
  • Screw driver
  • Hammer
  • Super glue, (gorilla glue preferred)
  • Steel Stick
  • (Optional hot glue gun)
  • Twine, Jute or heavy string, and/ or wire
  • Hack saw and/ or sm wood saw
  • Scizzors
  • Sandpaper
  • Rasp (optional)
  • Ductape
  • Hardware options (I.e. screws of different sizes, brads (small picture nails) or similar
  • A box of small to medium sized found materials of your preference
  • (i.e. : playing cards, wood stir sticks, small plastic or ceramic toys, sticks, cheap jewelry, small machine parts, feathers, shells, stones, small car parts, broken ceramics, beach glass, bike parts, fabrics, clock parts, wood boxes, wire, plastic or metal tubing)
