This course is designed to develop the techniques to work with acrylic paints. Through experimentation on various mediums with different brands of acrylic paints, students will learn about the advantages and limitations of using acrylic paint and also how to overcome the common challenges. Students will also learn the differences between acrylic and oil painting.

The course will focus on basic to advance techniques in painting, such as, coloring, blending, mixing, layering, brush types, stroke quality, surfaces making and color preservation. Basic knowledge of drawing and sketching would be beneficial but not mandatory.

  • This Monday class is eight sessions in order to accommodate the two holidays that occur during the winter term: Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 20, and Presidents’ Day, February 17. The class will not be held on these days and there are no makeup sessions.
  • FOR THE FIRST CLASS BRING THESE SUPPLIES:
  • One canvas paper pad,
  • Titanium White and Ivory Black paint,
  • Disposable Palette Pad,
  • Palette knife,
  • Golden Open Acrylic Medium (Matt) 8 oz,
  • Princeton Acrylic and Oil Brush Set Preferred or ½ inch, 1 inch and 2-inch flat brush, #2 and #6 Round Brush,
  • One Flat Mottler 25 mm brush for background painting
  • Midway through the term students will need these supplies:
  • Different sizes of canvases (Depending on the projects)
  • Acrylic Mediums
  • Acrylic Colors
  • Brushes
