In this five-week figurative course, students will be challenged to think of the figure in terms of simple interlocking forms and shapes to create powerful design-compositions. The aim will be to create dozens of quickly finished sketches each session in order to build strong picture making habits with immediate results.

Open to any medium, this class will meet the needs of creating bold figurative abstractions with the human form as a pretext.

What you will learn in this class:
1. Figure proportions and knowledge of bodily landmarks.
2. Seeing combinations of simple shapes and distilling them into abstract designs.
3. Loosening up your drawing with quick sketches.
4. Building up a formal drawing or painting from sketches.

  • For the first day of class have these items:
  • • A sketchbook
  • • 18" x 24" Newsprint paper
  • • Charcoal
  • • Kneaded rubber eraser
  • • Open to all media, please bring supplies that you may want to use in this class.
