This class will cover several different wire basketry techniques that can be used for everything from functional baskets to bizarre sculpture. Students will learn how to adapt the techniques they learn to suit the forms they want to make and how to incorporate other materials into their wire work. We will also cover flat weaving and basic principles of composition as they apply to both 2D and 3D objects.
Each class will include both demos and time for individual work.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN IN THIS COURSE
1. Three-part wire weaving for simple and complex 3D forms
2. Two-part weaving with single and double walls
3. Adapting different weaves to work flat
4. Incorporating other materials, composition with multi-media

  • Some of the wire we’ll be working with can stain your clothes so we recommend wearing dark colors and/or clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
  • Working with wire can unfortunately sometimes be difficult for people with arthritis or other issues with hand pain or dexterity.
