This exciting drawing class will offer the opportunity to hone your skills, by drawing from live models in different period costumes on loan from Opera Philadelphia. The Figure in Costume will introduce you to basic theories, principles, and techniques to successfully draw the figure, concentrating on improving your eye and your understanding of not only bringing life and gesture to the human figure, but how the figure is informed by costume.
There will be one-on-one critiques, group discussions and dialog to help you improve your drawing skills. Through topics including: gesture drawing, drawing from multiple viewpoints, composing multiple figures on the page, and discussing methods and materials, students will develop a shorthand to express how posture and bearing can be largely influenced by the clothing that we wear.
The costumes will be from various Opera Philadelphia Productions, all from different periods of time, to be determined. Don't miss this rare opportunity!"
