How do images tell a story, ignite our imagination and evoke emotions? We'll explore two distinct perspectives: from the maker’s perspective, as we examine how storytelling artists create impact in visual form; and from the viewer’s perspective, understanding and celebrating the successes of these narrative artworks. Special attention will be given to composition, design, and the interpretation of visual cues. You’ll learn the visual devices used to create a narrative, like dramatic lighting, gesture/posture, props, framing, and color. You will be guided through lecture, one-on-one instruction, and group critique to help you tell your own stories through painting.
