This course builds and continues on the principles taught in Introduction to Drawing. We will draw from still-life and other sources as we will learn to use a viewfinder and explore principles and techniques related to tone, light, and shadow using both pencil and charcoal. We will end the course with an introduction to figure drawing which includes gesture, proportions and a step by step approach to beginning a figure drawing.

  • • 14” x 17” white drawing paper pad or equivalent*
  • • Drawing pencils: HB, B, 2B *
  • • Pencil sharpener *
  • • Kneaded eraser*
  • • Hard eraser such as white plastic eraser*
  • • A set of compressed charcoal*
  • • A charcoal pencil*
  • • 12 - 18 inch ruler*
  • • Scotch tape *
