Discover the art of oil painting or continue to improve your skills in this all levels class. Through experimentation, students will be introduced to composition, color mixing, paint application, and the discovery form. Explore the process of developing as a painter and an image maker while receiving plenty of individual guidance and direction from the instructor.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN IN THIS COURSE
1. The use of a process for the development of an idea.
2. The creative function of a viewfinder as visual aide for the discovery of purpose.
3. Selecting a medium.
4. Understanding usage of color, warm and cool aspects, tone, tints, and saturated color, blending color, wet and dry color.
5. Recognizing execution to acquire harmony and unity.

  • FOR THE FIRST CLASS BRING THESE SUPPLIES:
  • • Sketchbook (medium sized or 11” x 14” suggested)*
  • • Sharpie – twin points, fine point

  • OTHER SUPPLIES TO BE DISCUSSED ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS:
  • • Paper painting palette
  • • Turpentine – Ultra fine*
  • • Linseed oil *
  • • Palette knife*
  • • Brushes: hog hair – two #4, two #6 and one #8*
  • • 2 cotton rags
  • • 2 small jars with lids
  • • Canvas (stretched) – 18x22”* or 24x36”
  • • Paint: Titanium White, Vandyke Brown, Magenta, Viridian Green, Cobalt Blue, Cadmium Yellow Light, Cadmium Red, Ultramarine Blue, Ivory Black.*
  • • Acrylic for lean under-paining: yellow ochre, burnt sienna, raw umber, white
