This workshop explores a variety of techniques used to create clay objects. Basic ceramic hand building techniques of slab, coil and pinch construction are used to create unique functional vessels and sculptural objects. All levels welcome.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN IN THIS COURSE
1. Basic techniques for hand-building: slab construction, scoring, carving
2. Sculptural concepts including additive and reductive processes
3. Basic glazing techniques
4. Form and function

  • The studio fee is for the use of studio materials, glazing, and firing. You are required to purchase clay (available in school store) along with some additional supplies.
  • • Hard fettling knife
  • • Small plastic container for slip
  • • 1/4-inch inexpensive brush for applying slip
  • • 1-inch soft brush for glaze
  • • Clean-up sponge
  • • Needle tool *
  • • Soft rubber scraper *
  • • Plastic bags (the type used by dry cleaners)
