What story do you want to tell? In this workshop we'll build quilt squares that share stories of our own. Students will learn machine and hand sewing techniques and embroidery stitches, create applique and construct dimensional fabric forms, and look at wonderful storytelling art quilts. You may bring your own portable sewing machine or share time on ours. Some familiarity with sewing and embroidery is recommended but not required.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN IN THIS COURSE
1. Machine and hand-sewing techniques to use in your quilt square
2. Embroidering on your quilt square surface
3. Applique and dimensional fabric forms to give your quilt square dimension and texture

  • FOR THE FIRST CLASS BRING THESE SUPPLIES:
  • • Sewing needles and quilting thread
  • • Embroidery needles and embroidery floss or thread
  • • Scissors
  • • Variety of fabrics in different colors, patterns, and weights
  • • At least 1 yard cotton muslin
  • • 1 yard fusible interfacing
  • • Sketchpad and pencil *
  • • Cutting mat and rotary cutter (optional)
  • • Sewing machine (optional)

  • If you own a portable sewing machine and/or a rotary cutter and mat you may bring them on 2nd day, but you do NOT have to purchase one.
