Explore the process of drawing the human figure in color. We will continue to improve your eye and knowledge through handouts, note taking, demonstrations, and lots of drawing from a live model. We will discuss to color theory, practice perceiving and rendering flesh tonalities, and explore the narrative aspects of color relationships. Working with dry and wet medium such as pastels, pencils and watercolor will help us achieve a deeper understanding of how to render the human figure in color.

What will you learn in this workshop?
1. Basic anatomy of the human body.
2. Experiment with drawing materials
3. Drawing from observation, and learn how perceive and render flesh in color.
4. How to create thumbnail drawings (a valuable drawing tool)
5. You will be exposed to examples of color drawings and renderings of the figure

  • • Watercolor set*, drawing pencil set, water color pencil set or Caran d' Ache crayons, water color tape, Water color paper pad* , drawing pad or newsprint and erasers*.
  • • A plastic Palette, for mixing water and plastic cups or containers for water.*
  • • Water color tape. Rulers.
  • • Optional (watercolor mediums such as ox gall, gum Arabic etc.)

  • Midway through the semester students will need these supplies:
  • • 18 by 24 inch watercolor paper or sheet.
