This workshop will examine the careers and works of five renowned women film directors from the late 20th/early 21st century. We will discuss the stories and themes of these artists' films and the stylistic paths that are pursued. We'll explore how a women's perspective informs storytelling as well as look at the history of women in filmmaking and how their struggle to achieve equity has impacted the film culture and culture at large.

Samm Deighan, Associate Editor of Diabolique Magazine and co-host of the Daughters of Darkness podcast will join the class as a visiting lecturer and lead a discussion about the film Romance. She's the editor of Lost Girls: The Phantasmagorical Cinema of Jean Rollin and her book on Fritz Lang's M is forthcoming from Auteur Publishing.
