Arguably the world's most utilitarian art form, printing is equal parts art and communications. From the Gutenberg press in Renaissance Europe to ukiyo-e woodblock prints of feudal Japan, silk screen posters of the industrial era to the radical 60s, and DIY xerox zines from the punk rock 80s to today - printing methods and their various products are inherently communicative. In the lecture portion of this course, students will explore the history of printing and the various cultural, social, political, and propagandist purposes encompassed by printed media.

In the screenprinting studio you will express your political or social point of view by creating an art print based on your ideology. Layering colors into the paper, you will create your own statement. Bring your ideas, your hands and paper and inks to let your voice be heard!
