The beauty of natural forms has been a continual source of fascination and inspiration for artists. But how do you capture the fresh spontaneity of nature? This 5-day watercolor workshop will allow you to investigate themes in nature in the highly expressive and versatile medium of watercolor. Discover essential techniques through instructor demonstrations, and practice painting from individual objects, still-life setups, and (weather permitting) the outdoors.


What will you learn in this workshop?
1. Improve vitality in your mark making and brushwork
2. Interpret the essential visual components of your subject
3. Gain confidence in working with wet art mediums
4. Explore organic approaches to composition
5. Expand your skill in mixing color and tonal values

  • • Small sponges
  • • Mixing dish/dishes or palette
  • • 2 water containers
  • • Watercolor block or individual sheets –140 to 300lb cold pressed; or 6 – 10 sheets of watercolor paper 11”x14”, 14” x 17” and/or 18”x24”
  • • A selection of good quality watercolors in basic colors: red, yellow and blue, thalo green and quinacra violet, plus black and white; tubes recommended
  • • Round tip watercolor brushes from #8 to #11
  • • 1” Painters tape (optional)
